Coastal Town with Natural Beauty

Like Rhode Island itself, Middletown is defined by the sea. The Atlantic Ocean’s Rhode Island Sound, Narragansett Bay, and the Sakonnet River border the 15-square-mile-town of 16,000 residents. Just inland from the beautiful Sachuest beaches along the ocean and the Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge on the southeastern edge of town, the land gives way to rural areas defined by mature beech trees and old stone walls. The defense industry is a key economic driver in town, and tourism is as well, for Middletown is adjacent to Newport, Rhode Island, which is known for its yachting legacy and its Gilded Age mansions. Middletown is also within easy reach of two of the Northeast’s most dynamic cities—Providence (35 miles away), and Boston (70 miles away).
